Spark Prize Application Closes Friday 

Nonprofits Have Until Friday, June 3 at Noon to Apply for $100,000 Prize Honoring Excellence and Impact in Brooklyn

Brooklyn Community Foundation's annual Spark Prize recognizes 5 Brooklyn nonprofits with $100,000 each for their track record of addressing critical challenges in Brooklyn, as well as a commitment to equity, strong values, and a dynamic vision for their future work.

The 2016 Spark Prize online application closes this Friday, June 3 at noon. Applying nonprofits are asked to demonstrate the following criteria in a 1,000 word narrative:

  • Born in Brooklyn: Organizations that have a deep history in Brooklyn and continued commitment to serving the borough.
  • Commitment to EquityOrganizations that address systemic challenges and are working toward racial and social justice for all Brooklynites.
  • Values DrivenOrganizations that have strong, articulated values that permeate through all aspects of their work.
  • Vision for the FutureOrganizations that have a strong vision for the work of their organization in Brooklyn and beyond.

Brooklyn nonprofit organizations with annual operating budgets over $350,000 and a minimum of five years in operation are eligible to apply.  Winners will be selected by a diverse committee of civic, business, and neighborhood leaders all hailing from Brooklyn.

In addition to the five $100,000 Prize winners, 20 finalists will each receive up to $5,000 on Giving Tuesday—the annual national day of giving observed the Tuesday after Thanksgiving—to match contributions from local donors. Finalists will be notified in October 2016 and winners will be announced in January 2017.
