Mark your calendars to join us for our annual dinner, featuring a dialogue on democracy and the future of our communities with national changemaker Stacey Abrams. Sponsor tables are now available; tickets go on sale next Tuesday, September 3rd!

August is Black Philanthropy Month

"I think that the core concept of ‘philanthropist,’ that root meaning, was in many ways hijacked at the turn of the 20th century—the images and the ideas that were presented were around great wealth and oftentimes whiteness, and as a result it excluded a large segment of the American people."

– Valaida Fullwood

In honor of Black Philanthropy Month, we are featuring interviews with prominent local and national voices in black philanthropy on our blog. Explore insights from Spark Prize Committee member Jocelynne Rainey, our newest Incubator Project member BlackSpace, and author and co-architect of Black Philanthropy Month Valaida Fullwood.

New Grants Fight ICE Raids, Deportations

Last month, our donors responded to threats of widespread ICE arrests with an outpouring of support that raised $35,000 for our Immigrant Rights Fund. With those crucial funds, we were able to issue two Immediate Response grants to protect our immigrant neighbors and fight for policy change through the work of New Sanctuary Coalition and Families for Freedom.

Additionally, thanks to the ongoing generosity of Fund donors, we are supporting organizing and outreach efforts this fall by our partners at UnLocal and the New York Immigration Coalition.
