Introducing: The Stories of Brooklyn Insights

Over 600 Brooklynites have participated in Brooklyn Insights since we launched in January, each with their own unique Brooklyn story—and we want to share a few of them with you. Visit BrooklynInsights.org for the first of these stories, featuring Abdu Rodney, a 20-year-old Boerum Hill resident whom we met in our Young Men’s Roundtable.

National Spotlight on Brooklyn Insights

Head to the Council on Foundations’ RE: Philanthropy blog for a guest post from our President and CEO Cecilia Clarke on how—inspired by the work of community foundations nationwide—we are utilizing community engagement as a tool for building a stronger vision and impact for the Foundation across Brooklyn.

Giving Impact: Bay Parkway Job Center

In 2002, we provided seed funding for New York City’s first-ever day labor job center, in Bensonhurst. Today, the Bay Parkway Community Job Center is celebrated national model, having helped raise day labor wages from $8 to $22.50 per hour, while cutting down on wage theft, improving health and safety conditions, and fostering good community relations in southern Brooklyn. Read about more about their work here.
