Nominate a local Do Gooder!

Do you know a community service devotee right here in Brooklyn? He or she could be the recipient of the first annual “Brooklyn Do Gooder Awards.” The Brooklyn Community Foundation created a borough-wide initiative that seeks to identify and honor those who embody the highest values of community giving and service. The foundation invites the Brooklyn community to nominate individuals who give back locally– whether its time, talent, or charity. Once nominations are made at, Brooklynites can vote on who they think is the best Do Gooder of them all.

A judging panel will then select five Do Gooders from the top 20 finalists, along with the “Do Gooder of the Year,” at the end event celebration at Brooklyn Botanic’s Palm House on November 3, 2010 at 6pm. Aside from the tremendous Do Gooder  honor, winners will also receive $5,000 to be used as a recognized 501(c)3 charitable entity working in Brooklyn or in a Brooklyn Community Foundation Field of Interest Fund.

Nominations will be accepted now through September 30th, so make your picks soon. Do Gooders can be anyone from a neighbor who gives clothes to the needy, a small business person who gives back to the community, or even a teacher who puts in extra hours to help students. More than anything, candidates should have a strong commitment to Brooklyn, and should embody the foundation’s motto, “Do Good Right Here.”
