Designers Unite Again for a Good Cause

In December, 24 New York City designers banded together to organize a charity auction for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Contributing furniture made from salvaged materials or that in some way alluded to the wreckage, the group, called Reclaim NYC, raised some $15,000 for the Red Cross.

Now it is back with a second event timed to New York Design Week. Reclaim x2, a furniture exhibition and sale, will open Thursday at noon in SoHo. “Our brief this time was collaboration,” said Jean Lin, a design blogger and entrepreneur who founded the initiative with another design writer, Jennifer Krichels. “We asked the designers to team up and create works that were based on the idea of coming together in times of need.”

This time, the goods are the creations of 25 design studios or teams, including Poly (shown), functional sculptures in brass and cast plaster by Egg Collective and Hangar Design Studios. Proceeds will be donated to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund for continuing Hurricane Sandy relief.

The event will take place from Thursday at noon to Saturday at 1 p.m., at Nejla Productions, 446 Broadway (Grand Street), third floor; information:
