Joel Herzig was a talented musician and real estate professional who had a profound impact on those fortunate enough to know him. He was an adored husband, a devoted family member, a reliable friend, and a mentor in both his personal and professional life.
From his undergraduate days as a music major at George Washington University, to playing in bands in Washington DC and New York City, to building an impressive career in real estate development, Joel had the remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His laid-back manner and quirky sense of humor instantly put people at ease.
Joel was courageous, with the strength of character to pursue his dreams and forge his own path. He had clear, ambitious goals for the future, but these goals were not more important than taking care of those closest to him. Always thinking of ways to help others, he enriched the lives of those closest to him simply by being himself.
Joel’s wife Elizabeth established the Joel Herzig Scholarship for Aspiring Musicians as a way to honor Joel’s memory and his legacy of generosity. The scholarship aims to sponsor young musicians with financial need to attend music camp in the summer, with a goal of granting at least one new recipient each year.
