The Joel Herzig Scholarship Fund for Aspiring Musicians

Joel Herzig was a talented musician and real estate professional who had a profound impact on those fortunate enough to know him. He was an adored husband, a devoted family member, a reliable friend, and a mentor in both his personal and professional life.

Joel had the remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He instantly put people at ease with his laid-back demeanor and quirky sense of humor. Joel was also courageous with the strength of character to pursue his dreams and forge his own path. He was always thinking of ways to help others, and he made an incredible difference in the lives of those closest to him simply by being himself.

After studying music at the George Washington University, Joel played in several bands in Washington, DC and New York City. He later built an impressive career in real estate development.

Joel's wife Elizabeth started this scholarship to honor Joel's memory and his legacy of generosity and creativity. In Elizabeth's own words:

From the moment I met Joel, I was immediately taken by how genuine he was. I loved his sense of humor, his smile, his curly hair. As I got to know him, I experienced his intelligence, quick wit, emotional depth and compassion for others. Even though he was so smart, so creative and so funny, he was also so humble. He had a quiet strength about him that I found mesmerizing. Joel is fiercely loved and missed, and always will be.

Every summer, the Joel Herzig Scholarship will sponsor a young musician with financial need to attend Buck's Rock Camp in New Milford, CT.
