On Saturday, June 27th, streaming live from across Brooklyn, our Brooklyn Youth Activists presented the 2020 Youth Voice Awards, honoring eight exciting projects led by youth that offer innovative solutions to the impacts of COVID-19 and systemic injustice in their communities.

We are pleased to announce $405,000 in grants from our Brooklyn Elders Fund for community-based organizations taking on complex, critical issues of racial and social injustice confronting older adults in Brooklyn.

Since we created the Spark Prize—the first to celebrate social change organizations in Brooklyn—we have awarded more than $2.4 million to 20 winners and 60 finalists. We couldn't have done it without the Brooklynites who shared their time and expertise as members of the Spark Prize Committee.

We are excited to announce the 20 finalists for this annual Spark Prize, the only award of its kind honoring longstanding nonprofits that have “sparked change” across Brooklyn.

Made up of 35 members all hailing from Brooklyn, the Committee includes local business owners Jackie Cuscana (Ample Hills Creamery), Andrew Tarlow (Marlow & Sons, Diner, Roman's) and Kai Avent-deLeon (Sincerely, Tommy), comedic actress Ana Gasteyer, and many more.

While celebrating the theme of justice and healing, the Brooklyn Youth Fellows presented the 2018 recipients of The Youth Voice Awards in a ceremony held at the Foundation on Friday, June 8th.

On Friday, June 2nd, our Brooklyn Youth Fellows honored the eight winning projects submitted by young people in partnership with local nonprofits, at an event filled with performances, a professional photo-booth, delicious local food, and lots of fun.
