It’s almost Mother’s Day and to celebrate, we’re pledging a $5,000 match from our Community Fund to support VOCAL-NY's Mama's Bail Out NYC campaign!

 

In 2017, Brooklyn Community Foundation invested $5.4 million in nonprofit programs through our Community Fund and Donor Advised Fund programs—$1.5 million more than the previous year!

On Saturday, November 4th, dozens of brawny Brooklynites formed teams to compete for the top spot in CrossFit South Brooklyn’s annual Fight Gone Bad, raising $21,744 to support high-impact initiatives through our Community Fund!

Foundation President and CEO Cecilia Clarke joined VP of Programs Kaberi Banerjee Murthy and Senior Program Officer Prachi Patankar to discuss our major milestones, including the Immigrant Rights Fund and criminal justice advocacy victories.

First, thank you. In 2016 you gave over $3.2 million to support the work of vital nonprofits and it has made a big difference. I'd like to take a moment to reflect on all that we have accomplished together.

Last week, shortly after we launched our Immigrant Rights Fund, we gathered immigrant-led organizations from across Brooklyn to learn firsthand about challenges confronting our communities.

This year, in addition to continuing our investment in over 40 outstanding youth-serving Brooklyn nonprofits, we are supporting 17 organizations for the first time through Invest in Youth.
 

Today, we are proud to announce a new Immigrant Rights Fund for Brooklyn.

 

Too many Brooklyn organizations are trying to wage this battle with shockingly few resources. Now is the time to be generous.

We stand with you, today and every day. 

You are lifelines and you are visionaries. 

You protect, sustain, and empower our communities, while you lift up values, solutions, and roadmaps to propel us toward change.

For many of us, Tuesday’s decision opened the door to uncertainty and fear about what is to come. 

Yet, in the face of fear and uncertainty

In the face of racial injustice

In the face of deep economic inequity

In the face of religious persecution
