A Landmark Year For Impact and Engagement: $15.6 Million For Nonprofits in 2022

Jameela Syed

Your partnership helped make 2022 an incredible year for Brooklyn Community Foundation and our communities. With your support, we distributed a landmark $15.6 million to nonprofits through our Community Fund and Donor Advised Fund programs last year—surpassing our previous grantmaking record for Brooklyn Community Foundation and bringing our total grantmaking since our founding in 2009 to over $90 million!

As we usher in a new year of community-led change, we are proud to share some of the many highlights of the past twelve months:

As you can see above, our Donor Advised Fund holders issued an incredible $10.3 million in grants in 2022 to 478 nonprofits—a 25% increase over 2021—with 68% going to local organizations.

Donors to our Community Fund helped us provide $5.3 million in critical support for 115 nonprofits advancing racial justice and social change in our borough. And a further 4,000 donors raised $1.4 million for nonprofits in the borough through #BrooklynGives on Giving Tuesday.

Our year was also defined by community engagement: we met with 170 Brooklynites to discuss the opportunities and needs in their communities as part of our Neighborhood Listening Tour, welcomed 850 guests to Foundation events, and conducted 119 support visits with our grantee partners.

We are so proud of all we have accomplished together, and hope that we can do even more in 2023! Make a gift to Brooklyn Community Foundation to support our strategic grantmaking for racial justice in Brooklyn today.
