#BrooklynGives and Your Donor Advised Fund

Dear Donor Advisors,

As we approach the end of the year, we wanted to share how you can incorporate #BrooklynGives into your annual giving.

#BrooklynGives is Brooklyn’s first and only boroughwide giving campaign, created by Brooklyn Community Foundation in 2016, to drive support for nonprofits in Brooklyn. #BrooklynGives connects local donors with grassroots nonprofits in their own backyards on Giving Tuesday, November 29th, the year’s biggest single day of giving — all on BrooklynGives.org. Since its founding, #BrooklynGives has raised over $5 million for hundreds of nonprofits. Read on to learn how you can be part of #BrooklynGives and give where you live!

#GivingTuesday DAF Grant Deadline

If you want to support nonprofits participating in #BrooklynGives with a grant from your fund, please submit your grant requests by Friday, November 11th. Early submission ensures that the nonprofit(s) will receive your gift by Giving Tuesday, November 29th. If you would like the nonprofit to count your grant towards their Giving Tuesday totals, you can also add "Brooklyn Gives" to the notes section of your grant request so that it is included on the grant letter the nonprofit receives.

To submit a grant from your Donor Portal:
  • Log into your donor portal and go to the “Grants” tab
  • Select “Recommend a Grant” and then enter the name of the nonprofit you are supporting as the grant recipient
  • Under “Grant Purpose” > “Special Instructions not to appear on the letter” > please include “Brooklyn Gives”

Sponsoring #BrooklynGives Door Prizes

Another way to get involved with #BrooklynGives is by  sponsoring a door prize for nonprofits participating at BrooklynGives.org with a grant from your fund. Door prizes are $500 donations awarded to organizations on Giving Tuesday and selected based on specific racial justice and equity criteria. Prizes are announced throughout the day on our Giving Tuesday livestream and social media, and your prize will be listed on BrooklynGives.org.

To sponsor a door prize, you can submit a grant to Brooklyn Community Foundation through your donor portal, noting "Brooklyn Gives Door Prize" or reach out to Melissa for assistance. The deadline to sponsor a door prize is Monday, November 14th

Spread the Word

Finally, you can support nonprofits that are participating in #BrooklynGives by sharing about the campaign with your friends, colleagues, and loved ones. Follow and use the hashtag #BrooklynGives on social media, and tag us @BklynGives and @BklynFoundation.
