159 Ways Our Community Is Responding

As we mark 10 weeks of the Brooklyn COVID-19 Response Fund, we want to share a snapshot of grantmaking so far.

Our “no strings attached” Immediate Response grants of up to $10,000 have addressed urgent needs across Brooklyn, with priority going to grassroots nonprofits led by and serving people of color.

To date, we have been able to fund 159 organizations at a total of $1,550,500:

  • Nearly 70% are led by people of color
  • Over 35% have budgets under $500,000
  • 40% are first-time grantees or have not recently received funding

The latest weekly Immediate Response grantees include:

  • Bedford-Stuyvesant Volunteer Ambulance Corps to sustain the services of volunteer EMTs and paramedics responding to 911 calls.

  • The Brooklyn Hospital Foundation to provide reusable face masks, hand sanitizer, and antibacterial soaps to local community members.

  • Flatbush Development Corporation to support local immigrant and women-owned small businesses to prevent closures and mitigate the impact of lost wages.

We have also provided all 159 organizations with $2,500 matching grants to help them raise even more funding for their vital work through our #BrooklynGives for COVID-19 Relief campaign.

Moreover, we have increased funding to our current grantees to ensure they can sustain themselves during this crisis.

In total, we have distributed $2.8 million over the last 10 weeks—made possible thanks to the unparalleled generosity of over 1,300 Brooklynites who have united to take care of their neighbors in need. THANK YOU!

We hope you will support the Brooklyn COVID-19 Response Fund as we continue to be a lifeline for local communities while fighting for a fair and just recovery. Please consider making a one-time or monthly contribution today:
