Thank You! #BrooklynGives 2019 Raises $640K for Local Nonprofits

Giving Tuesday 2019 was Brooklyn's biggest yet!

2,400 donors raised over $640,000 (and counting!) for local nonprofits through our #BrooklynGives campaign at www.BrooklynGives.org.

Of the 87 nonprofits supported, The Campaign Against Hunger raised the largest amount, with over $64,950 donated by a whopping 346 individuals. Rounding out the top 5 fundraisers are Exalt ($58,106 from 111 donors), Read 718 ($28,684 from 242 donors), New Sanctuary Coalition ($24,593 from 202 donors), and Extreme Kids and Crew ($21,902 from 42 donors).

Since we founded #BrooklynGives in 2016 to shine a light on local organizations during the world’s largest day of charitable giving, the campaign has raised more than $1.8 million for Brooklyn nonprofits by encouraging Brooklynites to “Give Where You Live.”

This year’s marathon giving day began with a kickoff celebration hosted by #BrooklynGives sponsor Santander Bank at its new Montague Street branch in Downtown Brooklyn, where our President and CEO Cecilia Clarke announced that an anonymous donor increased our donation match to $150,000 for the 20 Brooklyn organizations that are finalists for our 2019-2020 Spark Prize

“As the community foundation for Brooklyn, one of our most important roles is to be a bridge between nonprofits and donors. Today on Giving Tuesday – the world’s largest day of giving – we are proud to be part of a growing global movement focused on connecting generosity with community.”

- Brooklyn Community Foundation President and CEO Cecilia Clarke

Thanks to the support of our #BrooklynGives sponsors—National Grid, Santander Bank, and Sugar in the Raw—$1,000 bonus donation prizes were awarded throughout the day to participating organizations that raised the most money and/or had the most donors during a specific period of time. This year’s prize winners were Sadie Nash Leadership Project, Teens of Color Abroad, and Footsteps.

If you missed out, there's still time to join the #BrooklynGives movement. Donations will be accepted at www.BrooklynGives.org through December 31st.

Mark your calendars for next year's #BrooklynGives on Giving Tuesday: December 1, 2020!
