Welcoming New Board Member Connie Sargent

We are pleased to announce the newest member of our Board of Directors, Connie Sargent.

An educator and champion of numerous Brooklyn nonprofits, Connie is a member of the Foundation's 2019-2020 Spark Prize Committee and previously served as the Vice Chair of the Board at Habitat for Humanity NYC. She is a professor of English as a second language to foreign graduate students at Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business.

“I am really excited to join this amazing organization. Sometimes in New York, it’s easy to just stick with what you know, stay on your own block, hang out with people like yourself. But Brooklyn Community Foundation doesn’t do this. They search throughout all the neighborhoods of Brooklyn to support all kinds of organizations doing all kinds of incredible work to further racial and social justice. I am so honored to join this Board and support the staff in realizing this mission.”

Connie also spent many years teaching survival English to refugees at the International Rescue Committee and taught at Columbia University in the American Language Program. Prior to teaching, Connie was a product manager at General Foods, and then did public relations and communications for Habitat for Humanity NYC. She is a past Board member of the Brooklyn Historical Society, and holds a B.A. in Literature from Penn State, an MBA in Marketing from Columbia University, and a MATESOL from the New School.

Connie and her husband, John, have lived in Brooklyn since 1992. They have two grown children.
