Brooklynites Show Up For Immigrant Neighbors, Raising Critical Funds
July 25, 2019
In advance of the ICE Raids announced for Sunday, July 14th donors responded quickly and stepped up to defend our immigrant friends and neighbors, raising $35K for our Immigrant Rights Fund.
Simultaneously, our Programs team took immediate action, engaging with Brooklyn-based immigrant serving organizations to get funding into the community where it is most needed. The funds raised will be deployed over the coming weeks to nonprofits working with families at risk of detention and deportation.
Approximately 40% of Brooklyn's population is foreign-born, including nearly 200,000 undocumented individuals—a quarter of whom live with a child who was born in the United States. ICE activity in the borough not only affects undocumented individuals, but puts families at risk of separation and destabilizes entire communities.
We thank our supporters for their invaluable partnership and commitment to keeping Brooklyn #ImmigrantStrong.
