Meet Our 2019 Spark Prize Winners! (Part 2)
With the Spark Breakfast just two weeks away, it’s time to get to know the rest of the winners!
This week, we’d like to introduce you to Girls for Gender Equity, Red Hook Community Justice Center, and VOCAL-NY. (And in case you missed it last week, learn about winners The Campaign Against Hunger and Cypress Hills Child Care Corporation here.)
Committing to the holistic development of girls and women is the core mission of Girls for Gender Equity (GGE). Every day, they encourage their members to become agents of change through civic engagement and leadership opportunities, and campaigns focused on improving the rights of young women and gender non-conforming youth of color in Brooklyn and beyond.
The nation's first multi-jurisdictional community court, the Red Hook Community Justice Center seeks to solve neighborhood problems in southwest Brooklyn. Taking on cases that would typically go to Civil, Family, and Criminal Court, the RHCJC is revolutionizing the possibilities of community-based solutions.
Building power to create just communities and healthy lives is the goal of Voices Of Community Activists & Leaders (VOCAL-NY). Founded in 1999 as a progressive AIDS housing network, today VOCAL-NY is a statewide membership organization led by low-income people of color that addresses root causes, like homelessness and mass incarceration.
It’s not too late for you to join us at the Spark Breakfast, and help us celebrate all of these amazing organizations! Purchase tickets, tables and sponsorships.
We look forward to seeing you on February 28!
