Stomping Out Injustice: The Latest from Our Immigrant Rights Fund

Yesterday, a federal judge temporarily halted the Trump Administration’s new Muslim Ban 3.0 – the latest in a series of unjust and chaotic policies targeting immigrant communities that includes the recent rescinding of the DACA program.

Yet, from the terminals at JFK airport last January to the steps of Brooklyn Borough Hall this week, Brooklyn’s immigrant communities continue to raise their voices in the face of injustice.

On Monday, a group of young women from the Arab American Family Support Center led the “Stomp Out the Muslim Ban!” art protest and dance action.

In front of a large video projection against the exterior of Borough Hall, these brave young women shared the impact the ongoing travel bans and anti-Muslim bigotry have had on their communities.

We’re proud to have supported "Stomp Out the Muslim Ban" with a new grant from our Immigrant Rights Fund’s Action Fund.

This month we also deployed four new Sustained Response grants, bringing our total funding to $345,000 for 25 immigrant-led organizations since the November 2016 Election:

  • Atlas:DIY: $20,000 to increase the organization’s capacity to meet the legal, social service, and advocacy needs of New York City’s young immigrants

  • Brandworkers: $10,000 to support the transformative power and leadership of Brooklyn’s immigrant food production industry workers

  • Community Healthcare Network: $15,000 to provide legal counseling to immigrant patients at Brooklyn health clinics

  • Unlocal: $15,000 to meet the increased demand for legal aid and educational workshops for undocumented immigrants in Brooklyn
