Starting at Midnight:
Join Our 24-Hour $100,000 Donation Challenge to Support Brooklyn's Nonprofits on #GivingTuesday

We are on the eve of launching Brooklyn’s first-ever local giving campaign: Brooklyn Gives on #GivingTuesday!

Held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to foster philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

And now more than ever, your generosity matters

To encourage Brooklynites to get involved in giving locally to high-impact charities, we are issuing a 24-hour $100,000 donation challenge to support the 20 nonprofits finalists for our inaugural Spark Prize

These organizations represent the diversity, scope, and excellence of Brooklyn’s nonprofit sector, with programs that serve immigrant communities, promote criminal justice reforms, strengthen neighborhoods, tackle food insecurity, advance the arts, protect the environment, and support local women and girls

Through Brooklyn Gives on #GivingTuesday, we will match total donations up to $5,000 to each of these outstanding nonprofits:

  • Arab-American Family Support Center
  • Audre Lorde Project
  • Black Women's Blueprint
  • Center for Community Alternatives
  • Center for NuLeadership on Urban Solutions
  • Children of Promise NYC
  • Common Justice
  • Dance Theatre Etcetera
  • Green City Force
  • IMPACCT Brooklyn
  • Make the Road New York
  • MoCADA Museum
  • Neighbors Together
  • Reconnect Brooklyn
  • Red Hook Community Justice Center
  • Red Hook Initiative
  • Turning Point Brooklyn
  • United Community Centers
  • UPROSE
  • YWCA Brooklyn

Donation Challenge: $100,000 in 24 Hours

Starting at midnight tonight, you can donate to the above nonprofits individually, or support the entire group with one donation, at www.BrooklynGives.org

“We are so excited to bring greater attention and recognition to these 20 outstanding Brooklyn changemakers on #GivingTuesday,” said Brooklyn Community Foundation President and CEO Cecilia Clarke.

“Through Brooklyn Gives, we want to make it easy for Brooklynites to support some of the most effective organizations right in their own backyard—many often overlooked or not widely known—who are making a lasting difference for communities across our borough.”

Shop Local, Give Local (and Eat Doughnuts!)

Brooklyn Industries has designed a limited edition Brooklyn Gives t-shirt and will be donating 10% of sales on Giving Tuesday in its NYC stores and online to support the campaign.

Brooklyn Industries’ Smith Street store will also be the location for our official Brooklyn Gives kickoff breakfast from 9-10am on Tuesday, November 29. The event is open to the public and is sponsored by Brooklyn-based DOUGH doughnuts.

A Civic and Philanthropic Partnership

Brooklyn Gives and the Spark Prize are presented by Brooklyn Community Foundation in partnership with the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored by TD Bank with support from National Grid and the Brooklyn Nets

"When Brooklyn gives, the world wins,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. “Our borough has more than 2.6 million generous hearts, and those among us with the means to contribute a little or a lot on this #GivingTuesday will see the power of their donations grow, all thanks to the Brooklyn Community Foundation and the finalists of our Spark Prize."

"Brooklyn Community Foundation has made such a positive and sustaining impact in our community, we are excited about our partnership," said Peter Meyer, Market President of New York, TD Bank. "TD is honored to support the Foundation and the 20 finalists of the Spark Prize on #GivingTuesday in honor of their outstanding work that strengthens our neighborhoods and empowers our residents throughout New York."

“National Grid is committed to making a positive impact and lasting contribution to the communities we serve,” said Ken Daly, President of National Grid for New York. “We support programs designed to help improve the way people live, work and play in our local communities, focusing in the areas of education, energy and environment. We are pleased to help lead the Brooklyn Community Foundation’s effort to shine a spotlight on organizations that are committed to uplifting the Brooklyn community.”

“Through the Spark Prize, Brooklyn Community Foundation is able to support some of Brooklyn’s best organizations and encourage the important roles they play in their communities,” said Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Carlo A. Scissura. “Brooklyn Gives provides an incentive for New Yorkers to support great causes like sustainability, youth development and ending poverty throughout the borough.”
