Dear Friend of the Foundation:
We are celebrating 10 years as Brooklyn’s community foundation!
And we hope you will celebrate with us. We are deeply proud of what we have accomplished with you, our generous donors, and we ask for your support as we continue to work together towards a more fair and just Brooklyn.
Brooklyn Community Foundation is the first and only public foundation solely dedicated to New York City’s largest borough. Over the past ten years, thanks to our growing donor community, we have invested more than $50 million in hundreds of local nonprofits.
Here are a few ways you have helped make a big impact for Brooklyn:
In the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy in 2012, our Brooklyn Recovery Fund deployed over $3.5 million to more than 100 community-based organizations to support recovery and rebuilding.
Days after the 2016 election, we launched the Immigrant Rights Fund to protect Brooklyn’s 950,000 foreign-born residents. To date, we have distributed $1.3 million to local immigrant-led, immigrant-serving nonprofits working overtime in the face of unjust federal policies.
In March 2019, we established the Brooklyn Elders Fund to permanently support one of Brooklyn’s most vulnerable populations. An Advisory Council of Elders is leading decision-making for $500,000 in annual grantmaking.
