Chip Cafiero has been a Bay Ridge institution for 40 years. He has been a school teacher in our community, and continues to volunteer at our local schools. He has owned a business here, and raised his family. He has helped to found the Merchants of 3rd Ave Assoc., The Shore Road Parks Conservancy, and NYC's 1st "CERT" (Community Emergency Response Team) in response to 9/11. He helps produce the 3rd Ave Festival/Ragamuffin Parade, Halloween Walk, as well as our various parades: Norwegian Day, Memorial Day, St. Pat's. He is involved with numerous civic organizations including The Sunset Ridge Waterfont Alliance, Bay Ridge Against Grafitti, The Bay Ridge Food Co-op, and numerous merchant associations. He is a tireless organizer, fund raiser, political and law enforcement liason, and problem solver. He never says no to a request to get involved in a community event, and has the uncanny ability to always be able to find the people and resources to meet your organization's needs.
Chip's Shore Road Parks Conservancy helps beautify and maintain our parks. His CERT group protects our community. The Halloween Walk, and Ragamuffin parade provide safe alternatives to trick or treating for our children. The St. Pat's, Norwegian, and Memorial Day parades, as well as the Sunset Park Street festival, help promote our civic and ethnic pride. The 3rd and 5th ave Festivals, and grafitti removal projects, help support our local merchants. Many of these events include a "Green" element to help limit waste, and incorporate recycling. There are also concert series, and other festivals and events too numerous to mention, that help make living in Bay Ridge the wonderful experience it is. Chip is the driving force behind all of these events and organisations. His energy and bonhommie are endless and contagious. No task is unachievable, no challenge insurmountable.
