In 1955, a group of Holocaust survivors in Brooklyn established Guardians of the Sick based on classic Jewish communal organizational structure to provide special care and proper burial for other Holocaust survivors who were suffering from debilitating emotional and medical needs.

Micro Grants
The Brooklyn Community Foundation's Micro Grants program accepts requests for $500 or less to help support smaller scale projects and organizations throughout Brooklyn. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Our Micro Grants serve two purposes: to support grassroots, community efforts like beautification campaigns, Parent-Teacher Associations, youth sports teams, or community gardens and to serve as seed funding for start-up nonprofit groups to help support immediate needs as they build a rapport within the community members and among other funders.

Who is Eligible for a Micro Grant?

- Organizations interested in a Micro Grant must complete only a Letter of Inquiry to receive consideration. Micro Grant applications may be submitted at any time.
- Please follow the steps outlined on our Letter of Inquiry submission pages, noting that you may shorten the requested narrative sections.
- Micro grants are reviewed by a designated member of the program team; applicants are typically notified about a final decision within four weeks of submission.
